Uniimog - U 216 - U 530 Chassis design

Conquering the most difficult terrain.

The U 216 - U 530 Unimog ‘Implement Carrier’ range is compact and rugged: it will get men and equipment for a wide range of applications direct to the working site without the need for expensive detours or changes of vehicle. The unrivalled chassis design, including portal axles, permanent all-wheel-drive and many other technical refinements, means that nothing can stop the Unimog from completing its job safely, productively, effectively and economically.

Portal axles.

The Unimog’s portal axles are a unique feature and guarantee high ground clearance and are ideal for tackling rough terrain – even with attachments or heavy bodies.

Permanent all-wheel drive.

All-wheel drive excellent traction and directional stability just when it’s needed: such as in winter when driving on snow and ice, or across mud and unstable ground.

Coil springs.

The coil springs, which feature telescopic shock absorbers give the compact and narrow Unimog the greatest possible track width. The long spring travel and high degree of axle articulation allows all four wheels to stay in contact with the ground, even over rough terrain.

Single tyres.

The off-road ability of the Unimog is further enhanced by single tyres, which allows the rear tyres to follow the tracks of the front tyres, giving improved traction from lower rolling resistance. The wide range of tyres available means there is always the right one for the terrain and the job.

Tyre pressure regulation system.

Lower your tyre pressure at the touch of a button while the vehicle is still moving. This prevents sinking into soft surfaces and both traction and propulsion are greatly improved, reducing ground damage.

ABS and ALB.

Greater safety and driving stability are achieved with the anti-lock braking system (ABS), which is standard on all vehicles in the range. This is enhanced by the automatic load-sensitive brake control (ALB), which ensures evenly distributed braking power for every type of load.
